I'm pissed with the local ferret club
If you know me, you know I'm a member of a local ferret club which I'm currently pissed with. (I should send some ferrets to visit their houses and leave presents in the corners. LOL!) Outside of a large pet expo and ferret show, all these pet events are the only contact our club has with the community.
For *4* years I've done ferret awareness days. We're talking pet stores and outdoor pet events. Dan and I do these together. Sometimes Dan can't make it. Due to some physical restrictions from medical problems and an overwhelming terror my ferrets will be stolen if I'm alone, I don't like to do events alone.
Absolutley no one from (mummble) member club could shake loose on a Fri night between 4 and 9 pm to give me some help. I did have one person helping me and we had 7 ferrets in a playpen. We were barely able to get to the bathroom let alone go and eat. We were overwhelmed with people, many of the them tween and young teen girls and boys. (Yes goys are as fond of pets as girls and will baby talk them.) We had a real battle keeping an eye on them and the ferrets. Some of these kids, without obvious parents around wanted to walk away with our ferrets to show their friends and they monopolized holding the ferret inspite of other kids who also came to see the ferrets and wanted to pet and hold them.
There were easily a thousand or more people at this event. This thing was just physically and emotionally overwhelming for my helper and me. We can't forget the ferrets. They were passed around like stuffed toys. We had to put one back in his cage because he was so wound up he wanted to nip. The rest were real troopers. Not a nip or complaint from any of the rest of them.
My solution is to refuse to go to any events without adequate help. I don't care if its paid for or not.
